Venetian school of the XVIII century, surrounded... - Lot 37 - Osenat
Venetian school of the XVIII century, surrounded by Giovanni Bonazza (1654 - 1736) Giusl Taca, Pie Dela Robia, Antonio Soldani, Andrea Vaneti, Antonio Sani Suite of five marble medallions titled on the rim: GIUSL.TACA S.F. PIE.DELA.ROBIA S. , ANTONIO SOLDANI S.F. , ANDREA.VANETI S.F. ANTONIO SANI S.F. H. between 15 cm and 16 cm Related literature: Monica de Vincenti, The adoration of the Magi by Giovanni Bonazza, Milan, Calpendi Editore, 2017 Catherine Loisel, Dazzling Venice. Venise, les arts et l'Europe au XVIIIème siècle, cat. exp., Paris, Grand Palais, 24 Sept. 2018-21 Jan. 2019, Paris, RMN, 2018. Curious series of medallions in the spirit of the portrait-load. This ensemble can be likened to the work of the Venetian sculptor and pupil of Filippo Parodi (1630-1702), Giovanni Bonazza, in whom we find this particular manner with its somewhat outrageous expressions. Our medallions can be compared, for example, with busts of Bacchus and Ariadne kept in a private collection or with the medallion depicting Ezzelino III da Romano kept in the Museum of Padua. If three of the figures represented are titled with the names of three illustrious Florentine sculptors (Tacca, Soldani, Della Robbia) curiously the first names do not correspond. Each name is followed by the initials S.F. perhaps for Scultore Fiorentino.
