SMALL CANAPE made of mahogany, mahogany veneer and gilded wood, the front "flanged" uprights decorated with winged griffins, scrolls ending in scrolls and fleurons, the rear pilaster uprights surmounted by women's heads crowned with forget-me-nots and decorated with lotus palmettes and flaming torches. It rests on a plinth. Stamped J.D Partly Empire period (transformations, gilding wear, some chips) H : 112 - W : 129 - D : 81 cm This bench is inspired by the drawing of Charles Percier plate 6 of the "Collection of Interior Decorations including all that relates to the furniture" 1. It is similar to one of a series of four armchairs, by François-Honoré- Georges Jacob-Desmalter, which were in the bedroom of Joachim Murat, Grand Duke of Berg, on the first floor of the Elysée Palace around 18062. 1- Armchair made in Paris in the house of C. D**** 2- Preserved in the National Furniture and reproduced in Mobilier Français Consulat Empire, JP. Samoyault, Paris 2009, p.60 F. 88 The J-D stamp is sometimes used by François-Honoré- Georges Jacob-dit Desmalter and his father Georges Jacob from 1803 to 1813.
