Antoine VAUCHELET (1762-1819) Rare pair of large rectangular panels in painted velvet known as "Vauchelet velvet," with polychrome decoration of a bridge for one and ancient Roman ruins, with the inscription: "Senatus populus que romanus incendio consumptum. For the other, it is in medallions bordered by a frieze of pearls and laurel on a yellow gold background surrounded by a double blue and green net. They are decorated at the top with a garland of flowers held by ribbon bows topped by an eagle with outstretched wings and a vase resting on a finial decorated with leafy scrolls at the bottom. They have a border with garlands of oak leaves in two shades of green, military trophies in lozenges and medallion centaurs in the spandrels in bistre monochrome on a red background.
