OMEGA Ladies' Steel Watch Marine Standard Model 1941. Mechanical movement. Double rectangular steel case, Baumgartner manufacture. First diver's watch. Numbered 9790529. Leather strap. In an Omega case. 24 mm x 20 mm incl. crown. In 1932, Omega launched this first diver's watch designed by Louis Alix in Geneva and manufactured by Baumgartner. In 1936, the Omega Marine watch was submerged at a depth of 73 m in Lake Geneva for 30 minutes. In 1937 the Swiss watchmaking laboratory in Neuchâtel certified that the Omega Marine was capable of withstanding a pressure of 13.5 bars, the equivalent of a depth of 135 m. These were the first tests carried out on a watch to verify its diving capabilities. In 1957, the book Le Monde du Silence by Commander Cousteau and Frédéric Dumas was illustrated with a picture of naval officer Yves le Prieur (inventor of the diving suit) wearing an Omega Marine.
