"Big Healey"

Presented to the public in 1959, the Austin Healey 3000 is the descendant of a line of English roadsters imagined after the Second World War by Donald Healey with the aim of making affordable, elegant and high-performance convertibles. Initially powered by a four-cylinder engine under the bonnet of the Austin Healey 100/4, the roadster quickly adopted an in-line six-cylinder engine for nearly three litres and then developing 125 horsepower in its first version which earned it the nickname "Big Healey". Three versions of the Austin Healey 3000 followed one another until 1968 with the BJ8, which then became the must-have of the 3000 range, offering very decent performance for the time.
Driving this cabriolet is a real pleasure and turns many heads as it passes. The 3000 is supple at low revs and allows cruising but it can also prove to be a real sports car propelled by enough power and torque to allow a frank acceleration even in 3rd gear at 1500 rpm. The engine is not reluctant to rev and the driver is then bewitched by the sound of the six-cylinder that can be muffled and aggressive.
If the brand today reflects the icon of the chic cabriolet, having more of a place in elegance contests, it is nevertheless necessary to look at the racing and competition aspect in which it particularly distinguished itself at the beginning of the 1950s with four victories in the United States Sports Car Championship SCCA, a victory at the Macau Grand Prix and at the mythical Liège-Rome Liège race with Sir Stirling Moss at the wheel. Caroll Shelby was also a Healey driver, even breaking national, international and world records for endurance and speed at the wheel of a modified Austin Healey 100S (aluminium body). The 3000 also won a few rallies in Europe until the mid-1960s.
