Alphonse Nicolas CREPINET (1826-1892). French school. "The tomb of Joseph Bonaparte at Les Invalides. Project in ink and watercolour, glued on cardboard. 39 x 27 cm. Under glass. Gilded frame. B.E. History: On June 14, 1862, Joseph Bonaparte's body was transferred to the Invalides where he was welcomed by the minister Alexandre Walewski and the Marshal d'Ornano, governor of the Invalides. His former secretary, Louis Maillard, was in charge of organising the ceremony, which was not attended by Emperor Napoleon III. His coffin was provisionally placed in the Governors' vault before being placed in the Chapel of Saint Augustine on 22 March 1864. Alphonse-Nicolas Crépinet was entrusted with the creation of his funeral monument, one of whose projects we have here.
