BATTLE (George s). Autograph letter signed to Sarane Alexandrian. Carpentras, February 7, 1950. 1 p. 1/2 folio, envelope with some autograph notes from the addressee. "The long delay in my reply can be explained by a general difficulty where I have found myself lately doing what I really intend to do and not what chance imposes on me... I had been struck to read, in a surrealist publication, a text from you which showed an ability to squeeze the inevitable problems, but so often avoided. I'M GLAD YOU SAW THE WHOLE MEANING OF MY EFFORT. I think that your notice follows quite precisely the line I wanted to draw (at the very least, the word transcendence, towards the end, bothers me in that it is generally of a very variable use). As far as the Éditions de Minuit is concerned, there is no obstacle concerning a political line. But in case you have a manuscript to propose, the best would be to send it to me, since it is understood that I read some for them... Believe in my sympathy... My date of birth is 1897. You can add to the bibliography you give : LA PART MAUDITE (1949)... "Writer and art historian, Sarane Alexandrian took part in the surrealist movement, was one of the editors of the magazine Néon, and published among others a History of erotic literature (1989).
