POMPADOUR (Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, marqui se de). Autograph poetic manuscript. Probably 1745]. 4 pp. in-12 with garnet ink stencil framing. Copy of three pieces of verse composed to exalt this high fact of the reign that was the battle brilliantly won at Fontenoy, in the presence of King Louis XV, by the Marshal of Saxony against the troops of the Duke of Cumberland, on May 11, 1745. - Au roy" (quatrain): "The most amiable king / Is the greatest of kings, / He erases by his exploits / the heroes of history and the gods of the fable. "On the air of "La Fontenoy, fanfare" (8 sizains): "What sounds does the eco repeat / To the glory of the lilies / It is the mesme trumpet / That Henry once formed / To sing the defeat / of these proud enemies... "An anonymous piece published in the Mercure de France in June 1745. - On the mesme air": "Nymphs of this shore / Sung only the reefs, / War and devastation / Are in the enemy fields, / Fear not the storm / Where Louis rests... "Manuscript mentioned in 1860 by Jules and Edmond de Goncourt in the appendices of their study Madame de Pompadour, according to a catalogue of autographs from 1845 (Les Maîtresses de Louis XV, Paris, Firmin Didot, 1860, vol. II).
