ANNE I OF RUSSIA. Exhibit signed "Anna" addressed... - Lot 59 - Osenat
ANNE I OF RUSSIA. Exhibit signed "Anna" addressed to the War Department ["??????? ????????", "Military College"], 25 April 1732. 1 p. in-folio, lined sheet re-marked on one side. Decree by which the Empress requested that a border line be reinforced to prevent frequent escapes by peasants and, to this end, that a ministerial mission be sent to draw up a detailed plan and propose solutions. She added that this plan should be sent directly to her personal cabinet. Daughter of Tsar Ivan V and niece of Peter the Great, Anna Ivanovna (1693-1740) reigned over Russia from 1730 to 1740. It was under her authority that Ukraine was definitively annexed to the Empire, but she waged a costly war against the Ottoman Empire and allowed her favourite Ernst Johann von Büren to establish an unpopular authoritarian regime.
