POWERFUL REFLECTION ON THE RETURN TO THE SUBJECT IN ART, studied in its relation to truth and freedom. "IT IS A WORD THAT DOMINATES THE WORLD, THAT IMPOSES ITSELF ON ALL SUCCESSIVE GENERATIONS. OF ALL TIME WE'VE BEEN KILLED FOR IT. SHE IS THE MOTOR OF REVOLUTIONS. IN ART IT'S LESS SERIOUS. But this freedom is also a constructive factor in all the different pictorial eras that have blossomed in the world. It walks hand in hand with truth. The battle is the same. To be free to be true, how much can be imposed... It should be noted, however, that these different developments that follow one another involve [sic], the further one advances, a need to escape from pure reality. The flight from realism is accentuated by abandoning subjects (impressionism), by using objects (cubism), by abandoning the object (abstract art)... Currently abstract art...
