In-16, (16)-460-(20) pp., bilingual Greek and Latin printing on 2 columns, woodcut interlacing frame with title, Jean de Tournes' typographic mark on the last page, garnet morocco, spine ribbed with gilded "JAM" number on the spine, triple gilt fillet framing the plates with gilded coat of arms in the center, cold threaded cuts, gilt edges, restoration of the jaws and corners (contemporary binding). - Modern green cloth box with brown title pieces on the spine. BEAUTIFUL LYONNAISE IMPRINT OF JEAN DE TOURNES, from this Greek edition provided with Latin translation by the German humanist Jost Will dit Justus Vulteus (Alfred Cartier, Bibliographie des éditions des de Tournes, Paris, Audin, 1937-1939, n° 665). Collection of anecdotes of moral value concerning the history of ancient Greece and the Hellenistic countries, compiled by Elijah, a Roman writer of Greek language (c. 170-240 AD). It contains many excerpts from older works that have now disappeared. Printed afterwards are extracts from the Rerum publicarum descriptiones of Heraclide of the Bridge (ive century B.C.), also in bilingual edition with Latin translation, studying the constitutions of several ancient states. Provenance: the magistrate, scholar, historian and librarian of King Jacques-Auguste de Thou (gilded coat of arms on the plates, OHR, pl. no. 217 which attributes to Jacques-Auguste's son, and numbered with the initials of Jacques-Auguste and his wife Marie Barbançon gilded on the back, OHR, pl. no. 216, iron no. 6). - The canon of Saint-Victor and scholar Antoine Vion d'Hérouval (handwritten ex-libris with the title, circa 1650). - Charles de Rohan, prince of Soubise (inventory number written in ink on the first plate and on the first counterplate) - The law professor Charles Giraud (handwritten note on the first guard, no. 3272 from the auction sale of
