Exceptional fine tapestry panel from Brussels (Flanders) end of 16th century - beginning of 17th century The capture of Babylon by Cyrus the Great, King of the Persians on October 23rd, 539 BC. In silk and metal (gold threads) 248 cm x 218 cm (Restorations, three borders missing) After a surprise offensive, while the Babylonians were celebrating a great feast, against the Enlil Gate on the Euphrates. The struggle turns short, the city and the entire Empire fall into his hands. The tapestry illustrates the moment when the Babylonian king Nabonides kneels before Cyrus to make offerings to him.
