Candide BLAIZE (1795-1855). French school. "Simon Brière de Mondetour (1784-1854) Auditor at the Council of State during the Empire, husband of Mademoiselle l'Héritier de BRUTELLE " Fine black pencil drawing in bust, dated 1825. Framed under glass. 12,5 x 9 cm. E.B. Biographies : Simon Brière de Mondétour (1784-1854) was the son of Isidore Simon, mayor of the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, deputy of the Seine. The father had been made a knight of the Empire in 1808. Candide Blaize. Painter of portraits and miniatures, the Lorraine native Candide Blaize was born in Nancy in 1795 and died in Paris around 1855. He spent most of his career in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon from 1822 to 1846, and in 1836 he was awarded a third class medal. He lived with the Earl of Hertford and had a very active clientele, including George Sand and his son (Museum of Romantic Life). Candide Blaize was greatly influenced by Isabey, whom he adopted as his successor. the style before he emancipated himself from this master; he was very successful with children's portraits.
