General sword in the model of the Vendémiaire's rules An XII. Ebony handle carved with a seed of scales. Gilt bronze and chiselled bronze mount. Pommel with a lion's whelp topped with friezes of laurel leaves and acanthus, surrounded by three stars in the lower part. One-branch hilt, worked to the day with a palmette, decorated with a lion's head, fluted and adorned with acanthus leaves. Quillon curved downwards, decorated en suite and ending in a lion's head. Body knot decorated on both sides with a scaled shield adorned with two rooster's heads on a bundle of flags and a laurel wreath. Half-reillons with beaded border decorated with Medusa's heads. Curved damascus blade, engraved with cannon, flags and men-at-arms, gilt at the heel, bevelled back, counter-edged and carp tongue. Scabbard in blued steel (minute traces of oxidation) with three trimmings decorated with antique helmets (the eagle on lightning which surmounted this motif was erased during the Restoration), lion mufles on criss-crossed clubs, laurel leaf crowns and oak leaf friezes. Scroll stinger, made of cut-out brass. With green morocco officer's belt embroidered with a frieze of laurel in silver thread, with two lines (small addition of leather on one). Brass clasp buckle with snake attachment. B.E. First Empire period.
