Lovely oval miniature, signed in the middle on the right. Plain gilt brass hoop. On the back, handwriting "Very fine original by Mansion signed". B.E. Circa 1812. Biography : André Léon Larue dit Mansion, miniaturist from Lorraine, was one of Isabey's most talented students. A pupil of his father Jacques Larue, also a miniaturist and of Isabey, he married Marie Bryan, who also worked as a miniaturist. He usually painted large miniatures but also sometimes on vellum, cardboard, porcelain or enamel. He painted a remarkable portrait of Empress Marie-Louise in 1812, as well as portraits of many theatre people, artists and members of the nobility of the Empire. Mansion, who also worked for a time at the Sèvres porcelain factory, published a book entitled "Lettres sur la Miniature" in 1822.
