Jean-Baptiste ISABEY (1767-1855). Empress Josephine, in bust of ¾ face, in white muslin dress and scarlet shawl, wearing a cameo tiara. Lovely octagonal miniature signed lower right. Under glass. In a hemmed octagonal frame, raised by a blue enamel border (slight shine towards the bottom right). Miniature : 70 x 31 mm. With frame: 81 x 42 mm. B.E. Consulate period - Beginning of the Empire. Boissieux, "Gages d'amour, les miniatures", 1977, n°153-154, illustrated in colour on the cover page and p. 28 History: This representation of Josephine is rare because it is early. The future Empress is dressed with great sobriety and it should be noted that the Empress appears to be wearing the same tiara represented on the portrait of Baron Gérard dated 1801 (kept at the Hermitage Museum).
