Large Mazarin desk in walnut and fruit wood,... - Lot 78 - Osenat
Large Mazarin desk in walnut and fruit wood, the front opening with seven arched drawers (and seven simulated drawers on the reverse), the rectangular top resting on uprights with recessed ends ending in eight sheathed legs joined four to four by two spacers (redone), with decorative frames and reserves adorned with mascaron varnished bronzes, lock entries with foliated masks and palmette handles, (major restorations to the base). Louis XIV period. H: 80 cm, W: 178 cm, D: 84 cm The large eight-legged desks known as Mazarin are quite rare in the corpus of French furniture. Made at the end of the 17th century or at the very beginning of the 18th century, most of the furniture listed is in flower marquetry and sometimes attributed to the cabinetmakers Auburtin Gaudron, Thomas Hache (1664-1747) or André-Charles Boulle (1742-1732).
