Gilt bronze clock with openwork decoration of foliage scrolls, the dial with Roman and Arabic numerals surmounted by a winged child holding a wreath of flowers, resting on fluted uprights, flanked by garlands of laurel leaves held by a ribbon, the base with a recessed base decorated with interlacing and foliated squares. The dial and movement of Lepaute, Horloger du roi. Louis XVI period. H: 50 cm, W: 31 cm, D: 16 cm This clock is a variant of a model repeated in several copies and made by the bronze maker Michel Poisson, received master in 1779. A similar copy was presented for sale at Sotheby's in London on June 30, 2016, lot 132. An anonymous watercolour representing this clock is now kept at the Ecole des Beaux-arts in Paris.
