Large articulated, semi-rigid, opening bracelet in 750 thousandths yellow gold, decorated at the centre with a large opening motif, set with lines of old-cut diamonds, rubies and emeralds in the colours of the Italian flag, revealing a polychrome enamelled miniature representing His Highness Victor-Emmanuel II in bust, wearing his decorations and the military order of Savoy. It is shouldered on either side of the Victor-Emmanuel II figure, set with rubies, emeralds and diamonds, surmounted by a royal crown, two branches leaved in bundles at the base. The back of the miniature ciphered "SABBIONE 1876 TORINO". 19th century. Wrist circumference : 17 cm. Gross weight : 73,6 g. History : This jewel would have been offered to Rosa Vercellana, morganatic wife of the King. Biography : Victor-Emmanuel II (Turin 1820-Rome 1878), King of Sardinia (1849-1861), then of Italy (1861-1878). Son of Charles-Albert, he became King after the disaster of Novara (23 March 1849) and the abdication of his father. He continued liberal politics in the interior, and kept the Constitution. He supported the foreign policy of his minister Cavour aimed at the unification of Italy, from which he received the crown in 1861. After Cavour's death, the same political line prevailed, and he sought to impose his personal power on his ministers. In 1870 he settled in Rome. Rosa Vercellana, known as La Bella Rosina or, in Piedmont, La Bela Rosin, born on 11 June 1833 in Nice (then the Nice province of the Kingdom of Sardinia) and died on 26 December 1885 in Pisa, was the mistress and later the morganatic wife of the Italian King Victor Emmanuel II, who granted her the title of Countess of Mirafiori and Fontanafredda. Bibliography: Antonia ABBATISTA FINOCCHIARO, "Il Libro dei Gioielli", De Vecchi Editore, our jewel is reproduced. Presented jointly by Emeric & Stephen PORTIER, jewellery experts and Jean-Claude DEY.
