BERLIN Medici shaped porcelain vase with two eagle-shaped handles joined by garlands of foliage in relief on a brown background in imitation of bronze, the face is decorated with a bisque medallion on a gold background with bas-relief decoration of a portrait of Frederick William III of Prussia in profile turned to the right, in a setting of gold rosettes and Greek friezes, the neck adorned with a garland of oak leaves in brown and gold, the base decorated with palmettes, rosettes and foliage in brown and gold. Marked: scepter in blue. First third of the 19th century, circa 1810-1820. Height 48.5 cm A chip on the upper edge. Biography: Frederick III of Prussia, son of King Frederick William II and Frederique of Hesse-Darmstadt, married in 1793 Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1776~1810), daughter of Charles II of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Frederique of Hesse-Darmstadt, a princess noted for her beauty who exerted a strong influence from 1807 until her death in 1810.
