Large travel casket with the arms of Maria Theresa of Spain (1726-1746), dauphine of France, wife of the dauphin Louis of France (1729-1765). In wood covered with red morocco, richly decorated on all sides with foliage scrolls and lily friezes in patinated gold leafed small iron. Lid decorated in the center with the large arms of the dauphine under royal crown in a crown of palms held by a shell, enhanced with foliage. Corners struck alternately by the dolphin and the Spanish crenellated tower, in a crown of palms, under a delphinal crown. Lateral carrying handles with chased and gilded brass bases. Closures by two hooks with flower bases and chiselled brass lock of rinceaux, with opening ring. With its iron key. Lining in sky blue moire, raised in border of a braid in yellow and silver trimmings. Underside of the chest with four golden spherical feet, stamped with the initials "A L" interspersed with a rooster (rooster rubbed voluntarily). Rear braids of yellow and sky blue thread. Her marriage on February 23rd 1745 with the dauphin Louis of France marked the reconciliation between France and Spain. Very shy, distant, pious but also uncompromising, the dauphin did not appreciate the impertinent, scandalous and gossipy French court, hated gambling and preferred most of the time to stay in her apartments. The union was not consummated until seven months after the wedding in September 1745.
