Maurice-Quentin de La TOUR (1703-1768), after the French School of the 19th century Portrait of Marie Leszczynska, Queen of France Rectangular miniature 8.5 x 6.5 cm Under glass. Gilt and chased bronze frame B.E. Provenance: Collection Norbert de Beaulieu Biography: Marie LESZCZYNSKA (Trzebnica, 23 June 1703 - Versailles, 24 June 1768) is the second daughter of Catherine Opalinska and Stanislas I Leszczynski, King of Poland between 1704 and 1709. She was Queen of France by her marriage to Louis XV in 1725 and by her son the Dauphin Louis, who married Maria Josephosa of Saxony. She is the grandmother of Fran ce's last three kings, Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X. Left out of business and little considered by the Court, she devoted herself to her convent founded in Versailles for the education of poor young girls, today the Hoche Lycée. She took care of the moral and religious education of her son, the dauphin, who died three years before her in 1765. Little by little abandoned by the king, even though he kept a deep affection for her, she devoted herself to devotion and took under her protection a great number of charitable works, contributing in particular to the spread of the cult of the Sacred Heart.
