Philippe de CHAMPAIGNE, after the French School of the 17th century Portrait of Georges Langlois Plainbosch Bears the inscription "DE BLAD FI... "Oil on canvas (worn, missing and repainted) 37 x 30 cm Provenance: Sale Collection of the Marquise de Montault, Château de la Ferté Fresnel (Orne), Hôtel Drouot, Paris, Mes Chevalier et Appert, 21 and 22 May 1906, rooms 9 & 10, no. 178. Biography: He was the grandson of Georges Langlois (Ist of the name), President of the Chambre des Comptes de Paris and son of Georges Langlois (IInd of the name), President of the Treasurers of France in Rouen in 1612. Georges Langlois (IIIrd of the name), Lord of Pleinbosch, Etoutteville and Motteville, received Councillor at the Grand Council on 2 September 1634, First President of the Chambre de Comptes of Rouen on 2 December 1641, State Councillor on 19 June of the same month, who took the name of Motteville in 1658 as a result of the letters patent he obtained. He married Madeleine de Hanivel in 1643 at his first wedding, then after his death, Angélique de Charon on 28 April 1655.
