In Paris, at Méquignon-Marvis, 1818. 12 volumes in-8, half red marble, smooth backs decorated with gold and cold gilded fillets and florets, cardboard dishes of red maroquined long grain paper framed by a gold braided floral frieze with a "ML" number crowned in the centre, marbled edges, a few freckles, small tears on rare pages (period binding). First collective edition, partly original, prepared by Henri Bernardin's secretary of Saint-Pierre, Louis-Aimé Martin, including Paul and Virginia, La Chaumière indienne and the Observations on Russia, written from his travel memories. Illustration engraved on copper out of text: 28 plates including a leaflet, by different engravers according to the drawings of artists such as Alexandre Desenne, Anne-Louis Girodet, Jean-Baptiste Isabey, Louis Lafitte, Jean-Michel Moreau the young, Pierre-Paul Prudhon or Joseph Vernet. Beautiful half-marble binding with the crowned number of Marie-Louise (iron absent from OHR). Provenance: Léon de Liéven (ex-libris handwritten on a flying guard from vol. VI).
