PAPAUTY. - 2 letters. The two prelates who played a major role in the relations between the Papacy and Napoleonic France - Caprara (Giovanni-Battista). Signed letter, in French. Paris, July 12, 1806: "I have just received, Sir, the two pieces of both Latin and French verses, on the current state of France, and on the restoration of the University. The objects themselves are too interesting and it is for this reason that despite the faith of my eyes I will get the satisfaction of reading them, which I will also do with the Latin poem, which you so successfully published on the occasion of the Rite of His Majesty the Emperor. Sensitive to the kindness of making me enjoy the productions of your talents, I offer you my thanks... "(1 p. in-4, a small angular tear affecting a letter). Cardinal Caprara participated in the negotiations of the Concordat of 1801, of which he signed the decree of application, and was legate of the pope in France from 1801 to 1808, crowning Napoleon I king of Italy in 1805. His lack of firmness in meeting the emperor's demands was a reminder to Rome. - CONSALVI (Ercole). Letter signed with 2 autographed words "servitor vero C. Card. Consalvi", in Italian, addressed to Anne-Antoine-Jules de Clermont-Tonnerre. Rome, 29 February 1816: "Ho ricevuto la lettera di V[ostra] S[ignororia] Ill[ustrissi]ma coll'altra annessa per Sua Santità, alla quale mi sono fatto un dovere di presentarla, e mi dà l'onore di accluderne la risposta. The ringrazio vivamente delle felicitazioni inviatemi pel nuovo anno, e formando equali voti per le sue prosperità con sentimenti di distinta stima...
