LAMARQUE ( Jean-Maximilien). Signed autograph... - Lot 25 - Osenat
LAMARQUE ( Jean-Maximilien). Signed autograph letter to Dumoulin Elder. Saint-Sever, 29 April 1819. 1 p. 1/2 in-4, address on the back. "Since I left Paris, I have had no news of you... and my friendship is suffering... I am beginning to get bored at the bottom of my sad province, but I am continuing the construction of a vast cazerne there, to which my compatriots give the pompous name of hotel and even castle. I will have room to accommodate a few friends and I hope to welcome you one day and see you painting in a large studio that I place in a pavilion... Your moonlight is in a room and works wonders... I read Le Constitutionnel, Le Libéral, La Minerve and La Bibliothèque historique[liberal press organs], but I don't know everything they say in Paris. So write to me in your spare time and don't be afraid to send me bundles. [General Lamarque, whose ban had been cancelled, had returned to France and was interested in political action: he was going to run for deputation from 1820 and would be elected in 1828.] Do you often see the good, the kind, the beautiful M[adam] and Lavolée? I give you a little love for her and I forgive you. It is impossible to have more magnets. I sometimes receive very interesting letters from her husband... "Olivier Lavolée, who was the intimate secretary and perhaps the lover of Cambaceres, had married a cousin of the latter, Rose Du Vidal de Montferrier.
