HÜE (François). Letter signed to Frédéric... - Lot 18 - Osenat
HÜE (François). Letter signed to Frédéric Fuzier, first deputy prosecutor of the king at the Privas court. Paris, 5 November 1814. 1 p. in-4 printed with handwritten additions, header printed "Decoration of the Lily". "I have the honour to inform you, Sir, that the King has deigned to grant you the Fleur de lys, you are therefore authorized to decorate yourself with it... "Faithful servant of the royalty until in exile, François Hüe (1757-1819) was first bailiff of the king's chamber (1787) then first chamber servant of the Dauphin (1791). He proved to be a man of confidence in the storm, showing courage and dedication, especially during the insurrection days of June 20 and August 10, 1792. He maintained a correspondence with the king and queen prisoners in the Temple, which led him to be incarcerated twice, in 1792 and 1794. He was then authorized by the Executive Board to accompany Mrs. Elisabeth to Austria for an exchange, and then stayed with her in Vienna and Mittau where she married the Duke of Angoulême. He then served the couple as general commissioner of their house, meanwhile fulfilling a dangerous mission for Louis XVIII in Hamburg. Back in Paris with the royal family in 1814, he was charged in March 1815 with protecting Crown diamonds outside France. In the second restoration, he resumed his duties as valet of the king's chamber, to which he was added those of general treasurer of the military house and the private domain - he was created hereditary baron in 1818. In 1808, he published in London a famous book of memoirs, Dernières années du règne et de la vie de Louis XVI.
