CARRIER ( Jean-Baptiste). Autograph signed... - Lot 8 - Osenat
CARRIER ( Jean-Baptiste). Autograph signed as a conventional, countersigned by 2 other conventionals, Albert Ruelle and Louis Turreau de Linières. [Probably Paris, around May 1794]. 1 p. in-4, collection stamp. While on mission in Nantes under the Terror, where his activity claimed so many victims, Jean-Baptiste Carrier was recalled in February 1794 and executed the following December. His colleagues Louis Turreau de Linières (cousin of the general), Albert Ruelle and Joseph-Étienne Richard were also sent on missions to the insurgent West. Saturday 7 December 2019 / Osenat / 9 "We the undersigned deputies attest that during our stay in the Vendée we recognized the c[citizen] La Chevardière, former vice-president of the Paris department, as a very good patriot, we have not seen anything in him that could characterize any relationship tending to oppose the Republican Government, of which it has always seemed to us a zealous supporter, our colleagues Richard and Choudieu have given an honourable testimony of his patriotic conduct... "Dantonist once protected by Robespierre, Alexandre-Louis Lachevardière, had been an active civilian commissioner in the Western armies (where he established a useful relationship with General Menou), but was imprisoned in May 1794 in the Luxembourg prison. Released after thermidor, he performed various administrative and diplomatic functions under the Directory (including the Ministry of Police), the Consulate and the Empire, but retired permanently after being involved in a corruption case in Hamburg.
