AUGEREAU (Pierre-François-Charles). Letter... - Lot 2 - Osenat
AUGEREAU (Pierre-François-Charles). Letter signed to Pierre-Anselme Garrau under the cover of his wife. Paris, 21 brumaire an VIII[12 November 1799]. 1/2 p. in-12, address on the back, angular tear on the address sheet due to the opening. Augereau, a fierce Jacobin, did not immediately rally to Napoleon Bonaparte, and protected for example the deputy at the Council of the Five Hundred Garrau who, as an active opponent of the coup d'état, had been excluded from national representation on 19 Brumaire and had to hide. It was on the intervention of Bernadotte, another general close to the Jacobins, and Joseph Bonaparte, that Garrau would then be rehabilitated. "I immediately sent dear Lannes, I also sent one of my dear friends Roger Ducos to talk to him. As soon as I get the answer, I'll send someone to your wife. If you don't have a safe home, I'll get you one. Be patient, my dear comrade, and be convinced that I will share your fate. Have me and send me often your news.... "The future Marshal Lannes and former Director Roger Ducos were fervent supporters of Napoleon Bonaparte and the coup d'état.
