Marked: M. Imple de Sevres ^ in red. Empire period, year XIII, 1804-1805. Diam. 23,5 cm. Small gilding wears on the edge. Provenance: Delivered on 15 Brumaire year XIV (6 November 1805) by order of the Empress Josephine to Her Imperial Highness Princess Borghese, Pauline Bonaparte, Napoleon's sister. The service, whose decoration is described on a pale blue background with swans and gold heads enhanced in brown on a bronze background, entered the Sèvres manufactory's sales shop on the 1st Friday of the year XIV (23 September 1805). It was delivered on 15 Brumaire year XIV (6 November 1805) by order of Empress Josephine to Her Imperial Highness Princess Borghese, Pauline Bonaparte, Napoleon's sister. It was divided into an entrance service of 132 pieces comprising 72 flat plates at 55 francs each and a dessert service of 108 pieces also composed of 72 flat plates at the price of 70 francs each, a difference justified by the presence of a cameo portrait in the centre of the latter. An additional 76 pieces were delivered on 29 September 1806, including 48 flat plates to complete the entrance service. 1 - 1 Archives, Cité de la céramique, Sèvres and Limoges, Vbb2, f° 15 and 59.
