Paul DELAROCHE (1797-1856), 19th century French School workshop. "Napoleon I at Fontainebleau on March 31, 1814". Oil on canvas. Gilded wooden frame. 200 x 152 cm. The painting we present is a high quality copy, executed in Paul Delaroche's studio, probably around 1850, after the famous 1846 painting currently kept at the Musée de l'Armée in Paris. In addition to the copy of the Army Museum, we know of two other paintings by Paul Delaroche, one of which is in the Queen of England's royal collections and the other in the Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig. Provenance: John C. Henderson collection in New York before 1860. Private collection of Monsieur X. (Australia). Exhibition: Australia, Melbourne, Treasures of Napoleon, July to September 1999.
