Large bellows portfolio of Mr. Louis François LEGRAND, Secretary General of the Imperial Posts. In red morocco decorated with small iron on the dishes and the flap of friezes of vine leaves in gold. First dish marked with gold "THE GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE IMPERIAL POSTS". Clasp, five-point lock entry and silver brass reinforcement corners. Bellows with compartments lined with red morocco canvas flap. 32 x 53 cm. A.B.E. (Wear and tear, missing key, bellows restorations). First Empire period. Biography: Louis François LEGRAND (1752-1841) Former agent of the Ferme des Postes, he was Secretary General of the Post Office on 28 July 1791, retired in 1816. He is the one who, alongside Lavalette, heads the Post Office department. In office under four successive governments, he was notably the promoter of the General Instruction of 1792, an operating document for the use of post office directors.
