Veterinary kit, Alfort Veterinary School prize, awarded to Mr BASTIEN. 21 x 15 cm. In red morocco marked with an iron "A Mr BASTIEN ELEVE MILITAIRES DE L'ECOLE IMPERIALE VETERE D'ALFORT 1er CLASSE 2e PRIX AN 9" Lined with crimson velvet braided in gold, it contains a compartment with gussets and ten accessories, scissors, scalpels, four with ivory sleeves and a struck clip "COURANJOU RUE DES BALANCES 23". Silver clasp. A.B.E. Consulate period, circa 1800-1801. It could be Mr. Laurent BASTIEN (1782-1848), first veterinarian to the horse hunters of the Imperial Guard from 1806 to 1814.
